Here’s How to Have a Budget Holiday in Mysore

Mysore, while striking a balance between the image of the historical city and a sprouting IT hub, is maintaining itself as a major tourist destination of India. It is undoubtedly one of the top names that can occur to one’s mind while thinking of a holiday in India. It is a great place to have a fun-filled vacation with family. But, while thinking about a holiday plan the first thing coming to mind is – the Budget!

We have a common notion that one cannot have a great visit to any tourist destination without having a lot of spare money. But, Mysore is a tourist destination where you can have a full pleasure even on a tight budget. And here we are telling you how?

Consider traveling by train or KSRTC buses to get in the city – Despite being a major tourist destination, Mysore is not directly linked to most of the parts of India by flight or train. Majority of travelers need to go Mysore via Bangalore. The distance between Bangalore and Mysore can be covered by taxi or cabs, but it never is a smart decision. Opt for the Shatabdi train or the buses run by KSRTC. The state buses are cheap and luxuries especially the Volvo buses.

Choose the mode of transportation wisely for getting around the city – There are various options including bus, taxi, rental cars, rental motorcycle or scooter and auto-rickshaw for getting around the city.

  • Try to ignore auto-rickshaw unless the driver is using the meter. Normally, the drivers refuse to go by the meter, and this is a clear indication that you’ll be charged unfairly.
  • Cabs or Taxi services are also a good option if you are going to places like Srirangpatna that are outside the municipal boundary of Mysore.
  • Buses are cheap and best option for going around the city as they take you to most of the major sites including Chamundi Hills, Brindavan Garden and Mysore Zoo etc.

Don’t dress-up and carry luggage like a tourist – Many people while going on a vacation like to dress in a manner that anyone can tell (s)he is a tourist. Flowery shirt, big hats and funky sunglasses etc. are not the attire we wear on a daily basis. These might give you the so-called ‘kool look’, but this look also segregates you from the general mass. You never know, but your funky look sends out a message to every rickshaw-driver and shop owner that this person is a tourist and can be fooled by the hiked price of everything. Try your best to mingle with the crowd of localities so that you don’t get the unnecessarily hiked price of every goods and service at a tourist destination.

Prepare yourself well in advance – Preparing in advance for your Mysore trip does not only mean checking Mysore hotel price or booking a room thereof. You should have the list of itinerary along with the best timings to visit them. It will surely be a waste of time if you reach a tourist-attracting site and get to know that it is closed at the moment. Take for example the Mysore Zoo; if you go there on Tuesday, you’ll have to return because it is closed on every Tuesday. In addition to the visiting hours, you should also know about the special attractions and their timing. As for example, the musical fountain show at Brindavan garden begins at 7-pm, so there’s no point going there at daytime and having only half of the fun.

Keep these things in mind, and you won’t find a hole in your pocket after your Mysore holiday trip. If you are conscious not to be extravagant on your trip, then Mysore is one of the cheapest tourist destinations. So, you can enjoy a great holiday on a tight budget!
